They were a part of him, he was the void and they were a part of it. He created his new royal retainers from the dead bodies of his old servants, they looked the same but had void tears running from their eyes(like the dead retainers in the lighthouse and at the pale king statue in the ancient basin) they where also void creatures, capable of forming their void bodies into tendrils to strike their enemies.
He was the Faded King, created by the void to unite it, he was it's puppet, void incarnated. But this wasn't the pale king, his shell was shattered, and his body was void. Slowly the pale king rose from the lake, walking up the shore of the lake. A burst of dream essense was shot up from the lake, then it calmed, the tendrils stopped moving. It landed, slowly sinking into the void, the void climbing up it turning it black. A void tendril reached up, all the way to the palace grounds and grabbed the kingsmould, it was pulled down to the lake.
After the delicate flower ending, the void needed another master to unite it, the void was chaos once more.
